From Student to Teacher:
The Story of My Journey to English

A Dream Pursued

After finishing secondary school for healthcare, I began studying midwifery at the University of Ostrava, but I felt like something was missing. Since the age of twelve, I had dreamed of going to England as an au pair, and after a few years, I signed up for the Work & Travel program, passed the lifeguard exams, and went to Virginia, where I worked at swimming pools. The summer of 2018 changed everything, and after returning, I decided to leave school, pack my suitcase, and tell my parents that I was moving to England indefinitely.

Challenges in London

In London, I started working as a barista, but this is where the first problems and reality checks began. Almost completely unfamiliar with the British accent, I started to realize it wouldn't be as easy as I thought. After my first unpleasant experiences, losing my job and not being able to go home for Christmas, I thought my journey would end before it even began. In February 2019, still in London, I received an offer to work as a lifeguard again, but this time I had to pass the British exams. Everything went almost smoothly, and after a few months, I started working again. My love for living abroad kept growing, so I decided to stay longer.

New education

I decided to stay in England longer and enrolled at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, where I began studying English and linguistics. After that, I began my bachelor's studies in international relations and languages. My studies took me on an Erasmus exchange to Spain, where I traveled to other parts of Europe and broadened my horizons. In my second year of university, I created a profile for teaching Czech to foreigners and also started teaching English.

When the Journey Changes

During the pandemic, I completed a CELTA course (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in Prague and began teaching English online. The experiences I gained from my years abroad led me to the decision to become a certified English teacher. Six years ago, I would never have believed that I would be teaching foreign languages to others. Today, after years abroad, I am fluent in two languages and share invaluable experiences with my students. While my language journey continues, yours can start right now.

No a v neposlední řadě se s ní fajn povídá :)

"Sára is simply an amazing teacher, very supportive and encouraging, I personally love to learn Czech with her! The lesson materials are standard (reading, writing, listening and speaking), although, Sára is always encouraging to speak more. You do not have to purchase any additional study materials, everything Sára shares can be printed at home. She adapts the material to my particular level and, also, she is super welcome to verify some additional "home" assignments and correct my mistakes. As a native speaker, it is super interesting to learn some "insights" from her about Czech language like some "local" pronunciation rules or something similar. Additionally, she is always ready to ditch the original lesson topic and discuss something I'm interested in (ofc in Czech, to train speaking and listening), which is super cool! Sára is punctual and the lessons schedule is very flexible as well. All in all - I can only highly recommend!"

I've been taking Czech lessons from Sára since January 2024 (7 months) and plan to continue for the foreseeable future. She's a great teacher and a rare combination of personable, fun, intelligent, and patient. Her price for lessons is very fair, and her lessons have taught me more than I expected. I highly recommend her!

Sára is a fantastic tutor! She's always prepared with comprehensive lessons that build upon the previous week's work and she's quick to respond to questions with detailed answers. I took a very introductory course to Czech while studying in Prague years ago, and now that I've decided to take it up again with the intent of becoming fluent, I feel as though Sára is the perfect tutor to help me achieve that goal with confidence. In addition to teaching grammar, pronunciation, etc., she incorporates Czech history and culture into the lessons, which adds color and dimension to learning the language. Thanks, Sára!
